Toni Lee Sharpless

Toni Lee Sharpless went missing on August 23, 2009 from Philadelphia. Toni had been known to have some struggles with a mental disorder (Bipolar Disorder). She had been hospitalized a few times for it, and seemed to be on the mend. She had a daughter and family that she loved, along with a career as a nurse. Toni was on medication for Bipolar, which meant she could no longer indulge in an old habit - alcohol. One evening in August, she went out clubbing with a childhood friend. They eventually met a former football player, Willie Green. He invited the women back to his home, and they agreed to go. Once at his house, Toni stayed inside while her friend went to swim in the pool. Toni began to get aggressive - yelling at people and throwing things. Green eventually asked Toni and her friend to leave his home. Toni insisted on driving, even though she was heavily intoxicated. While driving, Toni demanded that her friend get out of the vehicle. This was the last time Toni was seen.

Toni's family thought maybe she took a wrong turn and drove into a nearby lake on accident. After searching the lake, Toni's car was not found.

There are hardly any clues in Toni's case. Her license plate was electronically recorded in Camden, NJ shortly after she disappeared.

In January 2013, an anonymous letter was sent to police. It was written on a yellow legal pad, and stated, "What happened to (Toni), I don't really know. All I know is she had a run-in with the police and I was paid much-needed cash to get the car to a shop in Boston. The writer claims to have helped ditch Sharpless’ car in Boston in 2009 for about $5,000 at the request of a friend. "I came back to Camden a day later and (the friend) told me that the car was not stolen, but missing. He said a friend of his, a cop in Camden, got into a fight with a girl, she died and he needed to get the car out of Jersey," the letter stated. The writer included the VIN of Toni's car also.

After Toni disappeared, her cell phone and bank account were never accessed again.

It is speculated that Toni got into drugs in Camden, and possibly involved in sex trafficking. This is a possibility, as Toni was an attractive woman and struggled with a mental disorder.

Toni Lee Sharpless is still missing today.

  1. Please, first of all. Shame on her so-called friend. She of all people knew that Toni was bi-polar, on meds, should not have been drinking, had not slept, and I would have taken her keys, but then again as her friend I would not have allowed her to be drinking. Her car found in Camden shows that it was her that drove it there. I believe the drinking, mixed with her meds caused a physoctic break.. anger, rage. She was in an unfamilar area, and most likely was trying to get her bearings, she saw and reconized Camden, pulled off, and in this rage induced state, met the wrong person. She is not in human trafficking, this happens mostly to girls where there is a language barrier, or they are here illegally. I think she was combative and angry and met the wrong person, this part of Camden is not good, and no-one talks. she knew Camden cause her and her sister went to a concert there. wrong place wrong time... drunk, combative, angry, bad things happen. I also believe she is no longer with us, cause once she sobered up. she would have known what to do. what ever happened to her, happened in Camden.....

    1. Shame on you. You wouldn't have "allowed"? She's a grown woman. Her family knew she was going out drinking. Her friend passed the poly. She has done nothing save try to help. It is not her friends fault. She was a nurse & a mother. She knew what to & what not to do. Walk in someone else's shoes. It's very easy to judge from behind your screen. You know nothing.

    2. The friend seems very genuine and upset and has made many attempts to help find Toni. Keep in mind she was the one who contacted the police about her being missing in the first place. I'm sure the friend does feel guilt, but she shouldn't. She's done everything she can for her friend.

    3. No One Should Be Blaming The Friend Who Did Nothing Wrong And Should NevernHave Got Out Of The Car And Demanded Her Friend Take Her Home For This Is Why She Feels Some Guilt. Not Finding The Car Is Amazing But With The Anonymous Letter Knowing The VIN Makes It Believable...
Sadly Their Are So Many Missing PPL In The US I Dont Know Why This Show Was Cancelled When They Are Repairing The Old Shows This Show Could/Should Have Continued Im Sure Most Family Members Would Be Willing To Participate

    4. Shame on her friend?!?!? Seriously?!? She's a grown woman who knows right from wrong, whom was a nurse by occupation, and well aware of her disorders, and medication dangers. As a Bipolar, recovering (5-Years-Clean) heroin addict,I will tell you first hand if you get something in your mind there is NOTHING AND NO ONE That Can Stop You. And as far as the statement about the sex trafficking, only goes to show how very ignorant and naive person you are. You may want to take sometime and actually research that for yourself. Anyone, Anywhere, Any Race, Any Age, Are all just as likely to become a victim to sex trafficking in America, as the next! This is a sad unfortunate case no matter the situation and/or details that caused it. I just hope for her loved ones sake they are able to find closure.

    5. I would have to agree with most of that, apart from the 'bad friend' part. I WOULD add though, being an ex-drug addict, as Miss Sharpless was, that in her state of drunken panic, possible embarrassment and discomfort, she wanted a taste of something she knew would relax her and make her feel safe. I think she could have, on attempting to obtain drugs, ran into the wrong person; be it thug or corrupt cop.

  2. I think her story should be re-aired on TV especially around the Camden and local areas. Someone knows something. Ppl just don't vanish. Ex girlfriends and/or wives are a buffet "secret" information! Who knows who might suddenly have a conscience :/

  3. I'm curious as to why none of the guys at the house were polygraphed. Just her friend was.
Otherwise- it is anyones guess. If she started doing dope, and tricking- any one of a number of things could have happened. If she was doing smack- then she may have OD'd and body dumped (if she was being pimped)

    1. Her friend wasn't asked to be polygraphed. She volunteered due to all the heat she was getting.

  4. In the letter they knew the vin number. I think the letter tells the true story. Should be looking for a dirty cop.

    1. It wouldn't be the first dirty cop in history would it ? On the east coast some years back they found a cop guilty for abducting, raping, and then murdering a young lady, that began as a traffic stop in or near L.A.as I recall.

    2. That VIN definately adds credit to the letter, and it's not that far-fetched for an area like Camden. Can you find the VIN of a car using the license plate no though? I'm not sure. Either way, this should definately be looked into.

  5. They need to check out the Camden area

  6. I also think that they need to re-check the Camden area and also the places where Toni had been seen. Although it is almost 7 years since Toni had gone missing but my heart aches because of knowing that she might be alive. All the theories could be true but about the drugs and sex trafficking - it makes the story even worse. If I had money and anybody could suppert me on Toni's case then I would contact with her close ones and start doing some research about it. Only god knows what has happened and I sincerely hope that Tony is still alive and tries to get back to her lovely daughter. Anyone who agrees with me please contact!

  7. I kind of believe there's something fishy going on I believe there's a cover- up going on with the cops here. You guys might wanna put more faith in that letter

  8. As for people blaming her friend? Bullshit! That girl as anyone can tell is just as worried as everyone else. I totally believe what she said because Toni was on bipolar meds and drinking and I believe she threw her out. You can tell when people are being genuine. God Bless you Crystal

  9. Back in 2009 there were a LOT of corrupt cops in Camden. In recent years they've gotten rid of the bad ones and brought in a new force of Metros. I strongly believe the letter tells the story of what happened to Toni. I'm telling you, the cops in Camden were very bad people. I would like to believe she's alive and put there somewhere, but being in Camden around 4:00 in the morning is not good for anybody.

  10. I say look into that letter. A VIN number doesn't just magically appear. There's some truth (if not all) in that letter!

  11. Bad cop sounds like the right story to me. My neighbor is a cop and to hear his stories DEFINATILY makes the letter believable. Cops can get away with anything. FTP

  12. Hum... It sounds that the bad cop story is legit. They said that the police car tracked her license plate was parked and that they found out about it days later. It seems to me that this was the car of the bad cop, whoever was on duty at the time is the suspect/murder/rapist!

  13. I don't know what to make out of this, one person wants to blame the friend, one wants to blame the cop. Now this may sound a bit harsh, but how about putting the blame where it belongs, and put it on Toni herself. I do believe that she is no longer with us however, I believe that she self destructed and may have committed suicide, and what is this letter everyone is talking about that explains the vin number to her car. I have watched this over and over and can not find a letter any where. Just saying and I hope and pray I'm wrong and that she is alive and just doesn't know who or where she really is from the disorder she has. I also believe that her disorder is a little more that bi polar, due to the fact that bi polar people usually know where they are they just have the extreme highs and lows, again could be wrong with that to just my experience with bi polar disorders. TONI IF YOU ARE OUT THERE READING THIS COME HOME TO YOUR KID AND YOUR FAMILY THEY ALL HELLAMISS YOU.

  14. The friend is definitely at fault! true Tony was a grown woman but she also had a mental disorder and if she was a recovering addict a true friend would have never put her in a situation where there were alcohol or drugs! Also a true friend would have never gotten out of the car if Tony was that upset and that far from home!

    1. When she made the decision to start drinking that night she was not sick. She made the decision as a normal adult. Even Toni's sister admitted she knew Toni would drink but let her go anyway. Nobody can be blamed for her mistake. Nobody can babysit her for her whole life. She got to take care of herself.

  17. The friend is not at fault. As she stated on "Disappeared," they went to Toni's home before they went out and her family was there. They knew the destination was "a club," and I agree with the friend that that absolutely implies alcohol consumption - her sister said she was a little surprised Toni was going, but it had been 6 months since she'd been out like that.

I'll probably never know what happened, but the letter is intriguing to say the least. I'm so sorry for her family and friends.

    1. Or you will probably never tell anybody what happened that night, something dirty started at Green house, I wonder you would open up one day and tell really what happened at Willie's house and who were the other peoples involved that night, didn't they offer drugs to Toni, when you left her alone and went away at pool or whatever..., what made her upset, so in result Willie kicked her out.

You said you were scared of life when Toni drove off, thats a lie.
You still stayed at Green's house? Childhood friend!!!

I believe the confession will come, may be on the death bed, but it will.
